Comfort Space
An observational approach to one of the most important spaces in my life; my closet, an intimate glance where the spirit of my identity unfolds. This space transcends its use of storage; it serves as a palette of choices, a canvas upon which I sketch the narrative of each day. Within the walls, the ritual of each day begins with an evaluation through self-reflection. With a simple selection of attire, I craft a personality for the day, an image for others, and a comforting idea that I can be anyone. Using a monochromatic theme, my closet acts as a starting point, allowing me to paint my life with the vivacity that it deserves. After emerging from this space, I can experience the vibrancy that life has to offer.
Escapism
The classroom environment encapsulates the realities of education. This stifling image reveals the detrimental realities that exist in the confines of the classroom. In this piece, student minds are captured, and thoughts are bound, stripping the vibrant creativity within. Desire represented by the legs replacing a student’s head symbolizes the ambiguity of what freedom is thought to be. Strapped down, the mind cannot wander into the pleasures of free thinking. The compliance of a school uniform is masked by a straight jacket, restricting not only thoughts but any attempt to pave a life that diverges from traditional pathways. Utilizing graphite and charcoal, I explore the desolate undertones of a student's yearning for liberation. This piece stands as a tribute to embrace meaningful interactions, questioning the very boundaries that hinder true potential.
